Getting your player ready...

I heard a lot of complaints from veteran Colorado Relay runners about this year’s race, so I want to hear from you. Did you have a bad experience? A good one? Did you like this year’s course changes or hate them? Did you think the race was poorly organized?

I want your feedback so I can run it by race organizers and write a column about it.

Here are some of the things I heard at the finish:

Directions given to runners were poor, and they changed days before the race. Trails were not marked well. There weren’t Porta Potties at every exchange point. Some exchange points were inadequate for the number of vehicles needed to accommodate runners. There were difficulties in the driving directions, some that were completely wrong. Hazards were not marked.

“Overall a great race, but organization was pretty nonexistent,” said Olivia Hyten of Broomfield. “You had a few people who got lost, the markings were just not there, there wasn’t a whole lot of support along the way. My second leg was poorly, poorly marked — I got lost three different times. We were in construction zones, there were potholes everywhere — not safe.”

The Colorado Relay is one of the gems of Colorado running, and it’s one of my favorite things to do. Send me your thoughts so I can have a constructive conversation with race organizers, and we can help them make next year’s Colorado Relay the best ever.
