Colorado State’s Nordly Capi was named the Mountain West defensive player of the week after a record-breaking game against New Mexico on Saturday, the conference announced Monday.
The 6-foot-3, 248-pound sophomore defensive end from Ocoee, Fla., had four forced fumbles, more than any player in the history of college football, in the Rams’ 14-10 road win over the Lobos. Capi’s day also included 4 1/2 tackles for a loss and 3 1/2 sacks.
He shared MWC weekly honors with Boise State’s Kellen Moore (offense) and TCU kick returner Greg McCoy (special teams).
CSU’s Plourde selected.
Colorado State middle blocker Megan Plourde earned Mountain West volleyball player of the week honors.
Plourde, a 6-3 junior from Somerset, Wis., led the 15th-ranked Rams to a 2-1 record last week, including a 3-2, come-from-behind upset of No. 5 Nebraska.
CSU-Pueblo ranked 21st.
After defeating then-19th- ranked West Texas A&M 26-24 on Thursday, Colorado State-Pueblo is ranked 21st in the American Football Coaches’ Association Division II poll.
It is the highest national ranking CSU-Pueblo has held since becoming a member of Division II in 2008. The ThunderWolves joined conference opponents Colorado Mines (24th) and Nebraska-Kearney (13th) in the poll.
Pettiford repeats three-peat.
Driver Michael Pettiford of Louisville won two races at High Plains Raceway in Byers this weekend to lock up the SCCA Rocky Mountain Divisional National class championships in three classes.
