BOULDER, Colo.—University of Colorado officials say a 21-year-old student from New Jersey died after drinking with a friend in Boulder.

University officials said Tuesday that Michael Alexander Hoffman had been drinking with the friend on the early morning hours of Aug. 26 before he was found unconscious on the doorstep of an off-campus apartment building. Officials say Hoffman became separated from his friend at some point before he was found unconscious.

The Boulder County Coroner’s office says an autopsy has been completed but that the cause and manner of death are pending.

CU-Boulder Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano says the university is saddened about Hoffman’s death and that what happened “is a challenge to us to continue our efforts in alcohol and drug education.”
