The holiday weekend marked the end of the “100 days of Heat” enforcement period and a nationwide 18-day enforcement campaign known as as “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”
A total of 869 DUI arrests were reported by agencies across the state in the last two weeks, according to Colorado State Patrol. Denver reported 174 arrests from Aug. 19 to Sept. 6.
Out of 13 fatalities in the state during the national crackdown, six involved alcohol and one involved drugs.
“It is unacceptable that half of the fatalities that have occurred in the past two weeks were due to impaired drivers or motorcycle operators,” said Col. James Wolfinbarger, chief of the Colorado State Patrol in a statement.
Statewide, law enforcement agencies reported a total of 1,991 DUI arrests since the “100 Days of Heat” campaign kicked off Memorial Day weekend.
