An Arapahoe County jury found a man guilty of beating an Aurora man to death in October 2010.
After a week-long trail, Maliek Abdul Bailey, 36, was convicted of first-degree murder today, according to a news release from the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office.
Shortly before midnight on Oct. 15, 2010, Michael Andrew Pinkus was found dead in a hotel room at the Crestwood Suites Hotel on East Evans Avenue in Aurora.
Earlier that evening, police were called to Pinkus’ home on a report of a home invasion and burglary. Pinkus’ roommate told officers Pinkus left the house at 9 p.m., before the burglary.
A short time after Pinkus left the house, Bailey and another man entered the home searching for money and marijuana.
At 9:47 p.m., the roommate called police to report the burglary.
Further investigation led police to the hotel where they found Pinkus’ body. His hands and feet were bound. He appeared to have been beaten to death.
The man who entered Pinkus’ home with Bailey pleaded not guilty to charges. His 7-day trial is scheduled to begin on Dec. 5.
Bailey will be sentenced on Sept. 22, at 3 p.m.
