A soldier who was shot to death outside a motel met the man suspected of killing him in a bar, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said today.
Ricky Scott, 22, and Sgt. Anthony DiSilva were in a bar the night the soldier was killed on July 23, the DA’s office said.
DiSilva, 25, a specialist stationed at Fort Carson, was planning to meet his father, Dave, at a Denver Motel 6 the next morning, so they could drive together to Silva’s hometown of Columbia, Ill.
Scott was arrested on Aug. 26. He is being held without bond in the Denver Detention Center.
Scott will face a first-degree murder charge, prosectors said today.
Silva, part of the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, completed a tour in South Korea before re-enlisting in hopes of being deployed to Afghanistan.
A back injury, however, prevented him from being deployed and he would have been medically discharged in August.
Scott’s criminal history includes an arrest by Denver police last October on felony drug possession and other related charges. He agreed to plead guilty to the drug possession charge in January and received a two-year deferred sentence and two years of probation.
On Aug. 19, a week before his arrest in the DiSilva murder, his probation and deferred sentence were revoked, but court records do not explain why.
