GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Officials in western Colorado are calling off their search for the source of a distress signal on the Grand Mesa.
Mesa County sheriff’s spokeswoman Heather Benjamin says the search could resume if a missing person report surfaces in Mesa or Delta counties. The Daily Sentinel reports ( ) officials launched the search Friday after the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida picked up a distress signal via satellite from a personal locator beacon.
Searchers say the beacon moved throughout the day, indicating that it may have been inadvertently activated.
Fifteen members of the Mesa County Search and Rescue team, two more searchers from Delta County and seven from Gunnison County responded to Grand Mesa.
