DENVER—Four drilling companies have received awards from Colorado oil and gas regulators despite a large number of oil spills over the past year and a half.
Noble, EnCana, Williams and Kerr-McGee last month received Outstanding Operator awards for environmental excellence. BP also received an award.
According to the Denver Post (), the companies reported more than 340 spills since 2010. Kerr-McGee had 38, Noble Energy had 37, Williams Production and EnCana Oil and Gas each had 36, while BP reported eight spills.
The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission says violations are not a disqualification for the awards.
