Amtrak said it plans this week to resume full service of its California Zephyr train between Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Areawith a stop in Denver.
Major portions of the route between Denver and Chicago were suspended last month after detours caused by floods in Nebraska and Iowa earlier in the year led to “unsustainable delays” and “insurmountable customer- service” problems, according to an Amtrak spokesman.
Full service on the Bay Area-Denver-Chicago route resumes Thursday with the departure of an eastbound Zephyr from Emeryville, Calif. The following day, the first westbound train will leave Chicago, Amtrak said. The railway also said service has been restored to the Amtrak station in Omaha.
Flooding had forced BNSF Railway Co. to detour the California Zephyr around Omaha since June 1 while the freight railroad made track repairs.
Amtrak said passengers who have paid for travel on canceled trains can contact the company for refunds without fees or penalties, or they can rebook for future travel. Jeffrey Leib, The Denver Post
