Aurora police are searching for an armed robber who fired shots this morning during a holdup of a tire store. No one was hit by the gunfire, police said.

The incident happened at about 10 a.m. at Discount Tires, 1160 S. Chambers Road, said Bob Friel, an Aurora Police Department spokesman.

An officer patrolling the area heard the shots and responded, but the armed robber had fled.

Police have cordoned off an area around the store, near East Mississippi Avenue and South Chambers Road, and about a dozen officers, some with police dogs, are looking for the robber.

“We have a lot of people out there,” Friel said.

A detailed description of the robber, or a possible get-away vehicle, was not available.

Police believe he acted alone.

This story will be update as more details are released.
