PARKER — Clinging to a 17-14 halftime lead, Chaparral scored 34 unanswered points in the second half and rolled to a 51-14 nonleague victory over Poudre.
Chris Page, who rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns, scored on runs of 2 and 7 yards in the third quarter to break the game open for the Wolverines. Chaparral added 21 points in the final stanza, including a 54-yard touchdown pass from Max Kuhns to Andrew McReynolds. Kuhns was 10-of-16 passing for 207 yards and two scores.
Ricky Stinnett kept the Impalas (1-2) close in the first half with touchdown runs of 1 and 2 yards. He finished with 131 yards rushing on 34 carries.
Chaparral, No. 9 in this week’s Denver Post media poll, has won two straight since an opening loss to Mullen.

LONGMONT — Forrest Wetterstrom ran for 82 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 80 yards, leading the third-ranked Trojans (4-0) over the eight-ranked Farmers (1-2) in a 4A nonleague game.

COLORADO SPRINGS — Winn Howard’s 4-yard touchdown run in overtime, followed by a Bears defensive stand, sent the defending 3A champion Cardinals to their third straight defeat to start the season.
Brock Dowling returned a fumble recovery 50 yards to tie the game 14-14 in the third quarter for Palmer Ridge, which lost twice to Elizabeth last year, including in the playoffs.

GRAND JUNCTION — Eric Rice coached his first game this season following a two-game suspension for conducting illegal preseason practices in helmets, and the Lamb- kins, overtime losers to Douglas County a week earlier, improved to 2-1.
Calvin Johnson’s 61-yard interception return and a Stephen Palmier scoring run in the fourth quarter expanded a 17-13 Fort Collins lead.

Kyle Bos ran for two touchdowns and Bryan Carlson added 109 yards and a score on the ground as the Eagles improved to 3-0 and kept the Spartans winless.

COLORADO SPRINGS — Class 4A’s top-ranked Eagles (3-0) showed no rust from a bye week following a win over Regis Jesuit, beating another 5A team behind a balanced attack. Christian McCaffrey scored on all three of his rushes (12, 43 and 5 yards), and quarterbacks Cody Thibault and Wes Tabor combined for 206 yards and a touchdown passing.

Taz Arguello made the most of his six carries in Lakewood’s debut in the Denver Prep League, a 49-0 win over Abraham Lincoln. Arguello gained 158 yards and scored three touchdowns on runs of 47, 10, 50 as the Tigers won their second consecutive game.

Boulder’s Demetrius Kennedy had his third consecutive 100-yard rushing game, going for 145 yards and a touchdown as the Panthers remained unbeaten with a 23-6 win over Smoky Hill. Kennedy had 473 yards and six touchdowns in the three games.
Steinbrook, Palmer run wild.
R.J. Steinbrook and Colt Palmer each topped 100 yards rushing as Cañon City, ranked No. 2 in 3A, whipped Pueblo County 35-6. Steinbrook ran 15 times for 147 yards and a touchdown, and Palmer gained 109 yards on 10 carries and also had a TD.
