A family is displaced and two cats are unaccounted for after an apparent lightning strike started a fire at a northwest Denver home.
At about 3 p.m., crews were called to a home at 3390 Julian St., after a report of a structure fire, said Phil Champagne, spokesman for the Denver Fire Department.
After arriving, firefighters discovered a fire in the back porch addition of the home, likely started by a lightning strike.
One man was home at the time of the fire. He was able to get out of the house safely, along with his two dogs.
Two cats are unaccounted for, Champagne said.
The man was stunned by the lightning, but otherwise uninjured.
It took firefighters about 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
No injuries were reported.
