GUNNISON, Colo.—Horse advocates from Gunnison County have raised $24,000 to rescue 60 horses from being sent to a Mexican slaughter house.
Liz Lecoq-Currier says she notified horse advocates across the world and raised the money after the owner said they would be slaughtered. The horses were to be shipped on Sunday.
At least 20 of the horses have been adopted so far.
According to KUSA-TV (), the horses that haven’t been adopted yet have been transferred to a ranch in Crested Butte.
