A motorcyclist crashed into a fire hydrant off Chelton Road and Palmer Park early Friday morning, severing it, according to Colorado Springs police.

He then ran away, leaving his passenger on the ground, where police found her crying. The crash happened at about 6:30 a.m.

Police searched the area for the runaway driver, and at 6:45 a.m. were headed to the nearby Wal-Mart at Chelton Road and Platte Avenue to respond to calls of a suspicious person.

There were no updates on the woman’s condition at 7 a.m., and police had not found the driver.
