You could spend years commuting from Arvada to Denver…or from Denver to Boulder…and never come across the master-planned community Taylor Morrison Homes and Remington Homes are creating in a valley west of Standley Lake – one that works for either commuter. Whisper Creek, set against a backdrop of Flatirons and summits in the Indian Peaks, is 20 minutes from Boulder and closer still to Interlocken; but the address is Arvada — something many buyers care a great deal about.
“Our typical buyer grew up in Arvada, then left, but now wants to raise kids here,” says Carmela Savoie of Taylor Morrison Homes, who’ll show you four models today priced from $274,990 – all served by popular Meiklejohn Elementary (9 for 10 stars at GreatSchools.net) and Ralston Valley High (10 for 10!). “There’s nothing new in Arvada priced this low; anything vaguely comparable in re-sales needs remodeling.”
Whisper Creek has that young-family plan (Taylor Morrison roared through its first two neighborhoods and is opening a third, with ten new floor plans, this weekend); but also has a wide range of move-up and luxury models, including a collection of patio ranches designed for people tired of yanking their lawn mower starters. “These people love the views and the proximity to Standley Lake,” says Remington Homes’ Cory Filkins, who has models, all ranch or main-level master, from $349,950. Can you imagine a low-maintenance enclave with large plans (1,664 to 3,251 feet) that has front/backyard landscape maintenance, plus snow removal, at $100 a month? That includes HOA membership that will cover Whisper Creek’s community pool, tennis and ball field, coming next spring.
Remington is also creating opportunities at low prices for family buyers (you can tour a newly released 300 Series model from the mid-$300s); but with the quality of schools (The Goddard School has a pre-school right on site) also offers three more luxurious collections. “We’re known for our semi-custom quality,” says Joan Frick, who with Joran Caywood will show you around. “We’ll even let you move walls.” Meanwhile, the metro area’s falling inventories of homes is leading to faster sales for people marketing their older homes: “When people put them on the market they’re seeing good success,” says Filkins. One recent couple sold theirs in ten days.
“Sometimes people are finding us after their house has already sold,” adds Taylor Morrison’s Savoie. The better route is to come look now (there are sites to a half-acre) when you can pick a plan and have six months to move. Whisper Creek — not that easy to find — is east of Indiana Street at W. 87th.
