Twenty-year-old rookies Stefan Elliott and Tyson Barrie survived another cut Monday and are among the Avalanche’s eight healthy defensemen and 10 overall on the preseason roster.
Elliott and Barrie are vying for an Oct. 8 opening-night roster spot along with rookie forwards Gabriel Landeskog (18 years old) and Brad Malone (22).
The Avs trimmed their roster to 31 by reassigning defensemen Jonas Holos and Cameron Gaunce and forward Ryan Stoa to the club’s American Hockey League, the Lake Erie Monsters.
