Silent-film fest has everyone talking

The first Denver Silent Film Festival wrapped up on Sunday, and its success has everyone talking. Starting with a sold-out, Roaring ’20-themed gala on Friday night, where director/screenwriter Alexander Payne presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to silent-film preservationist David H. Shepard, the three-day event put on by the College of Arts & Media at the University of Colorado Denver drew such a favorable response that organizers are already at work planning for Year Two.

“Remarkable women” honored at Rescue Mission tea

On the surface, it might appear that Janet Elway, Betty Lehman, Frances Owens and Emily Howell Warner have little in common.
