David Heydenburg shot his daughter in the head and chest before killing himself with a shot to the head, the Boulder County Coroner’s Office said today in wrapping up its investigation into the father and daughter’s death on Aug. 7.
Investigators had expressed no doubt that Heydenburg killed himself and his 3-year-old daughter, Allyson Heydenburg, in their Longmont home.
They were found in the home’s master bedroom with a note nearby. His marriage had crumbled and his financial problems were laid out in court records.
Authorities said Heydenburg was keeping the child for the weekend. When the mother, who moved out in June, came to retrieve the girl at the home on Red Mountain Drive, no one answered the door. She called police, who discovered the two bodies inside.
Heydenburg had two bankruptcies and several liens by Boulder County and private creditors, court records show.
Records also showed in 2004 he was owner of a business called DMH Pizza on 28th Street near Diagonal Highway in Boulder, a location that is currently an Asian restaurant.
