AURORA, Colo.—Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates is ordering his officers to get more training after the city’s eighth officer-involved shooting of the year.

According to the Denver Post ( ), Oates said in a memo to officers on Friday that there have been a disproportionately high number of officer-involved shootings over the past nine months.

The latest shooting involved 21-year-old Jerome Blackmon, who was shot and killed Thursday after he ran toward officers with a gun and fired one shot. Multiple officers returned fire, killing Blackmon. No officers were injured.
