BOULDER, Colo.—The City Council of Boulder is due to vote Tuesday night on an agreement that would have the city equally split costs with Honeywell International for now on the $5 million cleanup of the city’s Valmont Butte property.
Honeywell once owned the site, which has been used over the decades for industrial milling and debris disposal.
The Daily Camera reports () that once the cleanup is complete, the parties could go through courts to resolve final payments.
Honeywell also would pay the Environmental Protection Agency about $540,000 for a site investigation that ended in 2005. In exchange, Honeywell’s liability for damages would be reduced.
The company Tusco, which had leased parts of Valmont Butte to mining businesses, would provide $200,000 toward cleanup in exchange for a release of liability.
