CARACAS, Venezuela — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says government will expropriate homes in the Caribbean resort islands of Los Roques.
Chavez has nationalized hundreds of privately owned companies since taking office in 1999. But this is the first time he has targeted private homes for expropriation.
He says the homes and quaint inns to be seized were built on plots bought through shadowy business deals. He hasn’t given specific details.
