NEW YORK — U.S. stocks rose this morning after a closely watched employment report showed that the U.S. economy added more jobs than expected last month, helping assuage fears of a recession.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 65 points, or 0.6%, to 11189, setting up for what would be a fourth-straight session of gains. The Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index rose 3 points, or 0.2%, to 1167. The technology-oriented Nasdaq Composite was fractionally lower at 2503.
