LONGMONT — Take your yard signs indoors before you go to bed at night, and put them back outside when you get up in the morning.

That’s the advice Longmont Mayor Bryan Baum and City Council candidates Heath Carroll and Brian Bagley say they’re giving to supporters displaying signs in their yards, after dozens of Baum and Carroll signs — and at least a few of Bag ley’s — went missing.

Baum, who’s seeking re-election to the mayor’s post, estimated Friday that between 30 and 50 of his campaign signs have been stolen from locations throughout Longmont.

Carroll, one of the candidates for an at-large council seat, said his vanished signs totaled “at least 20 to 25, that I know of.”

Longmont police Cmdr. Jeff Satur said a search of three years of computer dispatches didn’t turn up any examples of police being notified about campaign-sign thefts.

Satur said police are, however, investigating a case in which an outdoor security camera recorded a suspect vandalizing a campaign sign in the yard of a home on the 1200 block of Baker Street.
