A 74-year-old hiker who had been missing since yesterday was located late this afternoon.

The Lair O’ The Bear Park in Kittridge had been closed today while Jefferson County Sheriff deputies searched for the missing hiker.

The Sheriff’s Office received the first report that Bob Johnson, 74, was missing on Thursday.

Johnson, is an avid hiker and a frequent visitor to the park. When he did not return home as expected Thursday night, his wife went to the park and found his car in the parking lot.

The Alpine Rescue Team conducted a search until after midnight.

The search efforts resumed today.

Just after 6 p.m. Mark Techmeyer, a spokesman with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s department confirmed that Johnson was found.

It appears the man suffered some head injuries during a fall.

“He was found 3/4 of a mile south of the parking lot in a very rocky area where it appears he took a fall,” Techmeyer said. “Rescue will be getting him out of there shortly.”

No more information will be released about Johnson’s injuries.

Johnson suffers from mild dementia, which can intensify when he is tired.
