Forty years ago, Brothers Redevelopment Inc. was a grassroots organization formed to address housing disparities in the Denver area. Today, the nonprofit founded by Richard Magnus, Joe Giron, Don Schierling and the late Manny Martinez is a regional leader in addressing the most pressing housing challenges, having served some 83,000 low-income, elderly and disabled clients with services ranging from installing shower or bathtub grab bars to mortgage default counseling. To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the agency hosted the Opening Doors awards dinner with comedy by Josh Blue at the Denver Merchandise Mart. Blacktie-Colorado, meanwhile, presented the second Georgia Imhoff Community Philanthropist and Volunteer Extraordinaire Award to Boulder attorney Beth Klein for her international efforts to halt human trafficking.
