About a dozen protesters waved signs and solicited honks from passing motorists this morning in Civic Center as about a dozen more huddled under blankets and tarps against a light drizzle.
“Day by day,” said 27-year-old Peter Brandt, who said he has been with Occupy Denver since Day One.
Protesters have a folding table set up with food on top of it, and a couple of cases of water below it. They slept overnight on the sidewalk — on the west side of Broadway between Colfax and 14th Avenues — because the park closed at 11 p.m., Brandt said.
“They didn’t mess with anybody overnight, fortunately,” Brandt said of police who continue to monitor the group.
A couple of Colorado State Patrol cars were parked across Broadway at about 8 a.m. today, with several troopers keeping a watchful eye.
Wet, cooler weather is expected in Denver today, with a 20 percent chance of showers and a high temperature in the upper 50s, according to the National Weather Service. The overnight low should be close to the freezing mark – 32 degrees – in the city tonight.
Mike Seymour, 45, said the group plans to bundle up and do the best it can in dealing with the weather.
“We’ll be here,” Seymour said.
