Getting your player ready...

John Greer is on his third school in three years, and is now shining at Lakewood.

Green, a senior, earned playing time prior to an injury for Mullen’s state championship team in 2009, then switched to Overland as a junior. Forced to sit out because of that transfer, Greer didn’t end up playing.

Without much experience as a junior, he made the move into the Lakewood school district and his overall speed and abilities in a conference clinching victory over Denver East.

Greer scored four touchdowns and may be one of Colorado’s most explosive running backs. He has received attention from a wide range of programs over his prep career: “Right now, I have heard from (Kansas), Notre Dame; I got a few letters from Miami, and (Kansas) State,” Greer said.

Greer has not yet fielded any calls from college coaches — calls are the most interest a college coach can show you outside of an offer at this point — but he is hoping to take some visits and learn more about a few colleges.

“I plan on visiting (Colorado), (Northern Colorado), and plan on going to K-State.”

Quick hitters

• ThunderRidge tight end Zach Jones has started to garner attention from all over the country. “I’ve been talking to Duke a lot and they are interested in me as a (defensive) lineman,” he said. “I’ve been talking to Rice University a lot lately. CU is still interested. I’ve also talked to Weber State.”

• D’Evelyn wide receiver Matt Menard will make sure that academics are a huge priority in his college decision. And he’s been hearing from those types of schools: “There has been a lot from Columbia, (Colorado School of) Mines, and stuff like that,” he said. “There has also been Valparaiso, Grinnell, and a couple of other smaller schools.”

• Vista Ridge quarterback Thomas Newman and his teammates may have absorbed their first loss in Texas last weekend but that doesn’t take away from his recruiting interest: “It has been Fort Lewis, CSU-Pueblo, Western State, and Duquesne University,” he said.

• Monarch fullback Gus Sawicki may do all the dirty work for his team but at least one college program has taken notice. “I’ve been talking to Pomona College in Claremont, Calif.”
