BOULDER, Colo. — A Colorado car dealer has been arrested on charges of failing to deliver vehicles worth up to $65,000 to buyers and then writing refund checks that bounced.

Gregory Kotsaftis, 45, surrendered to Boulder police Sunday on charges of theft of $20,000 or more and check fraud. The arrest was announced Tuesday.

Police said Kotsaftis owns Go Motors in Boulder. He didn’t immediately return messages left at his home and business.

Officials of the Paul Motors car dealership in Montreal told Boulder police in August that they bought a 2011 BMW from Kotsaftis for $65,000 but never received the car. The Canadian dealer said Kotsaftis sent a refund check that bounced.

The Canadian dealership said when it threatened to call police, Kotsaftis said that would delay their repayment.

Police said they know of at least seven other parties who paid Kotsaftis for vehicles but didn’t receive them. Some of those cars were purchased on the online auction website eBay.

Those buyers also got refund checks that bounced, police said.

City of Boulder spokeswoman Kim Kobel said police believe other people may also have paid for cars but not received them.
