An Aurora woman has been sentenced to 10 years probation for assaulting an officer and misdemeanor child abuse.

Kymberly Michelle Cagnina, 27, was sentenced today and also received a 12-month suspended jail sentence, according to the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office.

On June 13, Aurora police were called to check on the welfare of Cagnina, who was with her 3-year-old son.

Police reached Cagnina by telephone, but she wouldn’t tell them where they were, according to a district attorney’s media release.

Cagnina “threatened to slit her son’s throat and would kill herself and her son if she saw police,” prosecutors said.

Police eventually located Cagnina, who then led them on a brief chase in Aurora. The boy was found unharmed. While in custody, Cagnina assaulted a detention officer, kicking the officer in the stomach, the DA’s office said.
