I’m old enough to remember when the World Series dominated fall television screens.
That was B.C. (before cable) and before the commercial networks found that viewers liked Saturday night college football.
Thus, in the complicated world of audience ratings, Saturday night’s third game of the Series, when the Cardinals’ Albert Pujols destroyed the Rangers, probably will rate low because fans prefer the pigskin over the hardball.
The World Series opposition: Michigan State’s Hail Mary win over Wisconsin, Texas Tech’s upset of Oklahoma, Stanford’s Andrew Luck showing his Heisman credentials against Washington and USC beating longtime rival Notre Dame. And maybe nine or 10 viewers around the country watched Tulsa beat Rice. Last, but certainly not least: The Avalanche, unbeaten on the road, beat the Blackhawks in Chicago. By the way, do bars and offices still have World Series pools?
