MONTEREY, Calif. — California restaurateur Ted Balestreri will think twice the next time he makes a bet with old friend and Pentagon chief Leon Panetta.
Balestreri said at last year’s New Year’s Eve party he would uncork a rare $10,000 bottle of wine “if Leon catches Osama bin Laden.” Balestreri recalls Panetta saying, “You’re on!”
Balestreri plans to uncork the 1870 Chateau Lafite Rothschild this New Year’s Eve in Panetta’s honor.
