LAS VEGAS—A federal judge has ordered a Las Vegas company fighting alleged copyright violations to pay $119,000 in court costs in a failed lawsuit against a former federal prosecutor.
The Las Vegas Sun reports that Righthaven LLC must pay its largest fee award since the company began targeting alleged copyright infringements nearly two years ago.
U.S. District Judge Roger Hunt in Las Vegas ordered the award Wednesday after dismissing Righthaven’s suit against former prosecutor Thomas DiBiase (dee-bee-AH-see).
DiBiase was sued by Righthaven last year after he posted on his website a crime story published by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Righthaven had previously been ordered to pay $34,045 in a separate failed lawsuit.
Righthaven CEO Steve Gibson declined to speak to The Associated Press Thursday about his company’s ongoing copyright protection fight.
