GREELEY, Colo.—Greeley authorities have identified the man shot and killed Friday after a meeting at a hotel to exchange child pornography went bad.
A statement from police Saturday evening identified the suspect as 30-year-old Jason Paul Collins of Johnstown.
Police say federal officials on a child pornography case arranged a meeting with Collins Friday afternoon.
Police say Collins was shot after he touched his gun. Police say the gun turned out to be a pellet gun, but that Collins repeatedly told an undercover officer the gun was real.
The Weld County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the shooting.
