The first of three 2012 Presidential Debates will be held Oct. 3, 2012, at the University of Denver, the Commission on Presidential Debates said today.
The event will be held at DU’s Magness Arena.
More details will be revealed by DU this afternoon.
But in a news release, a spokesman said “being selected to host this debate is not just an honor for the University, it is an honor and an opportunity we share with the City of Denver and the State of Colorado.”
DU was able to meet a rigorous set of requirements, including an air conditioned debate hall of at least 17,000 square feet, large parking lots to accommodate both people attending and covering the debate and television remote trucks, trailers and satellite trucks, a large hall for a media filing center lot, the ability to distribute tickets, and the availability of approximately 3,000 hotel rooms for the event within 30 minutes drive.
Other debates sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates include the vice-presidential debate Oct. 22, 2012, at Centre College in Danville, Ky.; the second presidential debate in town-meeting format, Oct. 16, 2012, at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.; and the third presidential debate, Oct. 22, 2012, at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla.
