ARVADA — The Union Pacific locomotive had already passed a man walking alongside the tracks in Arvada on Sunday when he turned into the train’s path and was killed, police said.

“I don’t think we can really say definitively what happened. We are in the process of interviewing witnesses,” said Arvada police spokeswoman Susan Medina. “We are focusing on trying to identify him.”

The man was struck just before 10 a.m. near West 76th Avenue and Simms Street in Arvada, police said.
