GOLDEN, Colo.—Two men accused of running an illegal sports betting ring have pleaded not guilty.
The Denver Post reports ( ) that 60-year-old Daniel Dinner and 38-year-old Michael Elick entered their pleas in Jefferson County court Monday. Both face a felony charge of racketeering and more than a dozen misdemeanor charges of gambling. The two were indicted in June following an 18-month undercover investigation by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Alleged bettors had limits as high as $50,000 and included some high-profile sports entertainment and business figures, including Denver Post sportswriter Jim Armstrong, and a member of the Metro Denver Sports Commission board and managers in at least three bars in Denver’s Lower Downtown.
None of the alleged bettors have been charged with a crime.
