Continental Airlines today will operate the first U.S. commercial flight powered by advanced biofuels — a blend of algae-derived biofuel and traditional jet fuel.
The flight is from Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
Parent company United Continental Holdings also announced that it has signed a letter of intent with San Francisco-based Solazyme Inc. to negotiate the purchase of 20 million gallons of biofuel.
