
Despite the departure of a few big-name stores and a current vacancy rate of 22 percent, the Outlets at Silverthorne is slowly recovering from the economic downturn and stepping up its game to attract more “quality brand names” to the center.
Outlet sales and foot traffic are up within the past year, and sales tax revenue for the town is up 1.38 percent year-to-date, even with the store closings. The slight increase is a repeat of a similar 2010 performance, which came on the heels of dips for both 2008 and 2009.
Today, the outlets make up 35 percent of the town’s total sales tax revenues — “a substantial chunk,” according to Donna Braun, finance director for the Town of Silverthorne. A recent town financial report lists a past high intake of 40 percent.
