ASPEN, Colo.—A former candidate for Aspen mayor has been slapped with a state claim that she owes more than $55,000 in personal income taxes for 2007.
Court records show Marilyn Marks, who campaigned to make the city of Aspen more fiscally responsible, says she was unaware of the debts the state says she owes and she recently wrote a big check to cover her taxes. Marks ran against incumbent Mayor Mick Ireland in 2010 and lost.
The Aspen Daily News reports ( ) that Marks claims the media has no right to pry into her personal affairs.
