Students at an Aurora elementary school will return to classes this afternoon after they were evacuated this morning on a report of an irritating odor in the school’s kitchen.
At 9:35 a.m., firefighters were called to Paris Elementary School at 1635 Paris St., said Capt. Allen Robnett, spokesman for the Aurora Fire Department.
Firefighters believe the irritating aroma was caused by a refrigerator leaking a refrigerant, Robnett said.
The school was evacuated and Aurora Public School buses drove the students to the nearby North Middle School, said Paula Hans, spokeswoman for Aurora Public Schools.
One woman was taken to a local hospital, after she had minor difficulty breathing. No other staff members were treated and no students were exposed to the odor, Robnett said.
Around noon, firefighters cleared the building.
At 1 p.m., students were bused back to Paris Elementary School and resumed their afternoon classes.
Students will be released from school at their regularly scheduled time, 2:45 p.m.
