An armed robber who hit a Central City casino and tried to shoot a police officer has been found guilty by a Gilpin County jury.

Randy Steven Keesee, 45, faces a sentence of up to 94 years after being convicted today of several felonies, according to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

Keesee had a handgun April 3 when robbed a cashier at the Famous Bonanza Casino in Central City of $28,000, prosecutors said. Keesee got in a black Audi and drove into a parking garage at the Golden Gate Casino in Black Hawk.

In the garage Keesee fired at a police officer, but his gun malfunctioned, the district attorney’s office said. Keesee was wounded by the officer.

The jury, which deliberated for less than three hours, found Keesee guilty of:

  •  Attempted first-degree murder.

  •  Four counts of aggravated robbery.

  •  Five violent crime counts, sentence enhancers.

  •  First-degree assault of a peace officer.

  •  Theft over $20,000.

  •  Reckless endangerment.

    Keesee, who has five prior felony convictions, is scheduled to be sentenced on March 2.
