A jet en route to Toronto from Denver this morning returned to DIA after a loud pop and smoky smell in the cabin raised concerns.

United Airlines flight 3524, operated by Shuttle America, was in flight for a short time “when there was a loud pop” and the “smell” of “smoke” in the cabin, a Shuttle America spokesman said in an e-mail.

“The smell dissipated after about a minute” but the plane returned as a precautionary measure.

After landing it was determined that an air conditioning module had failed; passengers, who were reassigned to other flights, had not been in danger.

The plane has since returned to service.
