Tracing the course of history can be done in a number of ways. One of the most enjoyable is through music. The Spirituals Project, a 70-voice choir based at the University of Denver, chose “How We Got Over: From the Spirituals to Duke Ellington” as the theme for its winter benefit, a concert and VIP reception held at the Judi and Robert Newman Performing Arts Center. The sold-out event drew a number of high-profile attendees, including Mayor Michael Hancock and his wife, Mary Louise Lee.
