DENVER—The Colorado Department of Human Services has improved processing new applications for food stamps following a lawsuit.
Attorney Ed Kahn says the state is now largely meeting court-ordered standards for how quickly it processes applications.
In 2004, the center filed a lawsuit against the state because of its slow processing of benefits for the needy.
According to the Denver Post ( ), the agency has improved service despite an onslaught of applications and renewals that have doubled the number of Colorado people getting food stamps to 480,000 over the past three years.
