WASHINGTON—The Military Bowl will feature one of the military academies—just not the one they were planning on.
Officials announced Sunday that Air Force will play Toledo in the fourth edition of the bowl game at RFK Stadium in the nation’s capital on Dec. 28.
This year’s game was planned to match Navy vs. a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference, but Navy isn’t bowl-eligible and the ACC ran out of bowl-eligible teams before the Military Bowl could have its pick.
Air Force (7-5), from the Mountain West conference, will play in a fifth straight bowl game for the first time in school history. The Falcons also won the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy this season.
Toledo (8-4), from the Mid-American Conference, will be making its second consecutive bowl appearance.
“The first thing that pops out to me is they can put up a lot of points,” Air Force quarterback Tim Jefferson said. “If it turns into a shootout, then, hey, this is going to be a fun ball game to play in.”
