Top elected officials from Denver and Aurora are planning a meeting for later this month.
Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan said the meeting — to be held Dec. 22 at a site to be determined — will serve two purposes: getting to know one another and pushing the idea that economic growth will benefit everyone.
The two cities have been involved in a discussion over the potential move of the National Western Stock Show & Rodeo from Denver to Aurora.
Two weeks ago Denver pulled out of a joint application with Aurora for subsidies from the Regional Tourism Act that would have helped pay for the stock show’s relocation and the construction of a 1,500-room hotel by Nashville, Tenn.,-based Gaylord Entertainment.
Aurora is still moving forward with the application, which would provide $85.4 million for the hotel.
Hogan said he wished leaders from the two cities could have had a discussion before Denver pulled out of the RTA application.
Amber Miller, Hancock’s spokeswoman, said the topics won’t be just about the Gaylord project. Jeremy P. Meyer, The Denver Post
