The first ski and snowboard slopestyle contests since Olympic officials tapped the sport for the Sochi Winter Games in 2014 take place this weekend at the Dew Tour’s Nike 6.0 Open at Breckenridge. With only two FIS World Cup events for slopestyle this season, contests such as the Dew Tour and Aspen’s Winter X Games remain the breeding ground for Olympic slopestyle stardom.
The Dew Tour festival at Breckenridge, which starts Wednesday and rolls through Sunday, marks the start of an Olympic journey for slopestyle skiers and snowboarders, who have long labored in the shadows of their racing or halfpiping colleagues. Breckenridge is ready for launching the next Olympic heroes with a stellar, 2,200-foot slopestyle course that offers seven features, including two 70-foot jumps and two rail hits.
