A former New York man charged in a child abuse case that involved locking a 14-year-old Erie boy in his room in their fetid trailer daily, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor on Wednesday.
Richard Smith, 31, pleaded guilty to child abuse. He faces from three to 12 months in jail.
Smith and Amanda Jolliff, 37, were arrested in October after Jolliff’s son was found on Sept. 27 hiding beneath a neighbor’s porch, afraid to be locked again in his room after his mother had returned from a two-week trip to New York. The neighbor called police, and the boy was taken into protective custody.
Jolliff also was set to appear in court Wednesday, but she was taken to North Colorado Medical Center for an infection related to what authorities think was a spider bite while she was at the Weld County Jail.
