A 14-year-old Loveland girl will survive her brush with a freight train this afternoon, Loveland police said.

Sgt. Jameson Gartner said it wasn’t clear exactly how the girl was hit, but she had been walking with two friends along the tracks in the 3500 block of Butternut Drive about 2 p.m.

Her name and the nature of her injuries were not released. She was taken to McKee Medical Center in Loveland by ambulance. Police characterized her injuries as “non-life-threatening.”

The train was operated by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, but neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected.
