CASTLE ROCK, Colo.—A man accused of shooting a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy in the arm has been convicted of attempted murder, punishable by up to 48 years in prison.

Jurors Thursday also convicted 52-year-old Richard Wesley Anderson of three counts of first-degree assault, two counts of felony menacing, driving under the influence, and reckless endangerment.

Prosecutors say Anderson had failed to pay a bar tab after a night of drinking last year and threatened a bar manager who asked that he pay it. They say he also placed a gun to the head of a customer before driving off.

Prosecutors say Anderson fired 13 rounds from a semiautomatic handgun at Deputy Michael Garcia, who pulled him over. Garcia returned fire and shot Anderson twice.

Anderson is due for sentencing March 16.
